Compile is a now defunct company that created many shmup games, the most famous being Zanac. Compile was a company that created many games, including several famous shmups. In the shmup world, they are known for creating the Aleste series of games. They closed down in 2001. All except one of their shmups are vertical scrolling. The style they are known for is giving numbered powerups that can be increased in level, high difficulty, bosses that are bases, and their mascot, the Lander.
